Tarangire National Park, represents the defining savannah landscape of East Africa. As the sixth largest national park in the country, it is a wilderness frontier, for it lies on the border of one of the last great wildlife sanctuaries of East Africa. The park comprises of a 2,616 km² portion of what is known as the Tarangire ecosystem. The entire ecosystem spans 35,000 km² of the Maasai Steppe which stretches across the semi-arid Great Rift Valley floor.

The park is a dry season sanctuary for a majority of the migratory wildlife in the ecosystem. The park is particularly rich in mammal and bird species. The dry season starts in June and carries on to October, forcing wildlife to leave the surrounding environment and move to the river, and towards the end of this period the concentrations are remarkable. As of present, it is one of East Africa’s most dramatic events, such that at its peak the density of large mammals in the middle and northern zone is only surpassed worldwide by the phenomenon of Ngorongoro Crater.

Tarangire Tree Tops above is located in Randilen Wildlife Management Area on the eastern side of Tarangire National Park. Sanctuary Swala is located in an exceptionally private section of the Tarangire National Park, offering visitors a luxurious and exclusive safari experience. Sanctuary Swala has been built to the highest eco-friendly standards and offers 12 luxurious open-plan and spacious canvas tents, all shaded by acacia trees and within site of the waterhole frequented by elephants and big cats. Each tent has an ensuite bathroom with indoor and outdoor shower and features a spacious open plan arrangement with comfortable king or twin beds, campaign chairs and plush sofas. Located near the new Sangaiwe Gate of Tarangire National Park. Tarangire Simba Lodge is situated in a wildlife-rich area with unhampered views to beautiful Lake Burunge, bordered by the park and a Wildlife Management Area. The setting is stunning; with a giant old Baobab tree anchoring one corner and a permeating feeling of real Africa. The lodge has sixteen classic tents under thatch. Resident wildlife includes lion, zebra, bushbuck, impala, porcupine, monkeys, warthog, mongoose and more. Elephant, buffalo, ostrich and giraffe frequently pass through while the bird life is prolific and vibrant. During the dry season groups of elephant, giraffe, waterbuck, zebra and more come to a small waterhole located in front of the lodge. Lucky guests can watch wildlife right from their rooms or the elevated viewing platform near the pool.
